Our Story

The idea for Nobody’s developed over the course of many wine-fueled late nights and sober schemings. In March 2023, Bob and Jonathan received the keys to the space and by September were ready to proudly open the doors to the public.

Bob is one-half of Nobody's ownership team. He is the face you will see every single time you walk into Nobody's. He is also the guy behind everything you'll drink here! A Syracuse transplant, he has grown to adore Syracuse and the broader region. Nobody's is the start of Bob's contributions to add value to his new home.

He comes to Syracuse originally from Iowa but most recently via Appalachia where he earned a Master's degree in sociology with a concentration in political economy from the University of Tennessee. He was gearing up to write a dissertation on how the global economy shapes what we drink, but realized that his impact on shaping how people drink might be larger in a more practical application.

He dropped out of graduate school but kept his study habits up. He has worked in front-of-house and beverage oriented positions at some of the top restaurants and resorts in the country, including Blackberry Farm, Blackberry Mountain, and The Fearrington House. His move to Syracuse was prompted out of accepting a position at Saint Urban. He has spent time traveling to study food and wine in Croatia, Spain, Austria, New York, Virginia, California, and more.

His efforts to learn as much about wine as he can has led to some pretty neat things. In addition to being a featured guest for seminars and publishing on wine he has also been successful in competitions as well. In 2021 he placed third in Le Best Sommelier, a nationwide competition on French wine organized by the French Ministry of Culture and sponsored by the Rothschild Family. In 2023 he competed in the prestigious International Jeunes Sommelier Competition, an annual global search to name the best sommelier under-30. He advanced all the way to nationals, and is one of the top six young sommeliers in the United States.

Bob is looking forward to creating a culture and environment in Syracuse that celebrates great beverages and the artisans, not laboratories, that make them. If Bob isn't thinking or talking about wine at any point of the next year, he's probably napping.

Jonathan is the other half of Nobody’s ownership team. He is a 2012 graduate of Syracuse University. His day-to-day business is currently focused on commercial real estate brokerage, development, and finance.

His exposure to the industry over the years has developed his network in a wide variety of ways including in the business and personal realms and has exposed him to an eclectic assortment of investment opportunities. His affinity and love for wine was ignited in 2011 while taking a wine and appreciation course as an undergrad.

His passion is investing in unique projects and creating experiences that are needed in the neighborhoods and communities in which he lives.

"I love people. Grapes are very similar to people in my opinion so maybe that's one of the reasons why I love wine,” Jonathan says.
